Trump commends North Korea for their deciscion on Nuclear Weapon
United States President Donald Trump has commended North Korea for calling off its missile attack on the US military base in Guam.
Trump expressed his delight on Twitter, saying it was a wise decision. He said:
"Kim Jong Un of North Korea made a very wise and well reasoned decision. The alternative would have been both catastrophic and unacceptable!
President Donald Trump on Wednesday praised North
Korean leader Kim Jong Un for supposedly backing down off his threats to
bomb the Pacific U.S. territory of Guam.
Tensions between the U.S. and North
Korea have escalated over the past few weeks and until now, Trump’s
tough rhetoric and warnings only increased.
“Kim Jong Un of North Korea made a very wise and well
reasoned decision. The alternative would have been both catastrophic
and unacceptable!” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning, the day after North Korea’s state media said Pyongyang delayed a plan to fire missiles toward Guam.
US again urges China to use its influence on North Korea
North
Korea has long ignored warnings from the West and from its lone major
ally, China, to halt its nuclear and missile tests, which it conducts in
defiance of United Nations Security Council resolutions.
UN
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said it was time to "dial down
rhetoric and dial up diplomacy" on North Korea and that he had told
Russia, Japan, the United States, China and North and South Korea that
he was available to help broker talks.
"My good offices are always
available, and I conveyed this message yesterday to the representatives
of the six-party talks," Mr Guterres told reporters.
"The
solution to this crisis must be political. The potential consequences of
military action are too horrific to even contemplate."
The US has
been hoping China can press North Korea into reining in its weapons
programs, which the top US general reiterated in talks in Beijing this
week.
