President Buhari can't approve the salary of the former presidents
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) have revealed that president Buhari cannot approve the payment of the salary of past president because of lack of money in the country and the Economic recession we are into.
within the last years the Nigerian Government normally pay the past presidents of the country salary and some allowances so as to maintain themselves and solve there various needs.
this non payment of salary includes the former president of Nigeria Good Luck Jonathan and the other former presidents which includes Olusegun Obasanjo (OBJ), former military President General Ibrahim Babangida rtd. (IBB), General Abdulsalami Abubakar, General Yakubu Gowon, chief Ernest Shonekan and Alhaji shehu Shagari who is ninety-one years old.
This non-salary payment have lasted for 10 months starting from January, 2016 till date.

"Others affected are Inter-Religious Council, Traditional Rulers Council
and so on. For some reason, we have been writing and writing, but there
has been no response. And there is presently no money to pay them.” S.G.F said.
However, The Vice Chairman of the committee, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, described the non-payment of former presidents as abnormal.
“What we have seen here is an abnormality. Before referring any
matter to the National Assembly, it is a function of the executive to
appropriate funds. Therefore, the SGF should understand that there is
something wrong in this office that must be addressed.
